The Secret Garden Cast & Company

THE CAST

ADDISON BECKER (Colin, in alternating performances) is excited about his first performance on the Globe stage.  At age 11, he has appeared in several productions with the junior and senior musical theatre company of Do It With Class, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Les Miserables, and The Three Penny Opera.  These performances have given him valuable experience on stage.  He also appeared in The Winter's Tale at the University of Regina.  Addison has shown a passion for acting since starting at age 4.

 

RENÉE BRAD (Rose) is thrilled to be making her Globe Main Stage debut in her favourite musical The Secret Garden.  An experienced performer in opera, oratorio and musical theatre, she recently appeared as Kate in Eos: The Dream of Nicholas Flood Davin, Mercedes in Carmen, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Bertha in The Barber of Seville, and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel.  Renée also developed, produced and toured the musical theatre cabaret An Evening on Broadway for the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.  In February, Renée will perform the role of Tisbe in Opera Saskatchewan's production of Rossini's Cinderella.

 

GREG CAMPBELL  (Ben Weatherstaff/Major Holmes/Major Shelly)  The Secret Garden is Greg's Globe Theatre debut.  He recently appeared in The Mackenzie/Papineau Rebellion (VideoCabaret, Toronto); and as Jacob Mercer in 1949 (Theatre NorthWest, Prince George).  Greg has performed at theatres across Canada including Persephone Theatre, Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, The Citadel, Buddies in Bad Times, Theatre Passe Muraille, The Gryphon, The Capitol, and Lighthouse Festival.  In the spring, he will appear in Confederation (VideoCabaret) and Suzie Goo for Prime Minister (Buddies in Bad Times).  Greg's TV and film credits include Exhibit A, Queer as Folk, Traders, and Global Heresy with Peter O'Toole.

 MATTHEW CASSIDY  (Dr. Craven)  Matt is happy to be back with the wonderful family at Globe Theatre this holiday season after being a part of last year's production of Honk! in which he played Drake and Greylag. This past year he performed in Jasper Station (Theatre New Brunswick) and Leader of the Pack (Stage West Mississauga), as well as solo concerts in Kitchener and in his home town of Woodstock, Ontario. Selected credits include: Kirk in Dads in Bondage (Drayton Entertainment); The Gentleman Caller in The Glass Menagerie (QP Productions); Owen Musser in The Foreigner (The Sterling Festival) and Smudge in Forever Plaid (The Charlottetown Festival). JULIA JAMISON (Lily) is enjoying being back on home turf after twenty years of travelling and performing.  While away, highlights have included: a couple of seasons at the Stratford Festival (Oedipus Rex, The Merchant of Venice, Romeo and Juliet, Inherit the Wind, Camelot, The Sound of Music), numerous new works at the Banff Centre, Phantom of the Opera (Pantages Theatre), The Mikado (National Arts Centre), performing lyric mezzo roles with l'Opera de Montreal, San Diego Opera and The European Opera Centre, and directing music for Last Call at Globe Theatre last season.

 

SCOTT LANCASTLE  (Albert) The Secret Garden is Scott's first appearance at Globe Theatre.  A native of Edmonton, Scott is a graduate of the BFA drama program at the University of Alberta and has performed across Canada and in Japan.  Some favourite roles include:  The Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors (Grand Theatre); Jigger in Carousel (Huron Country Playhouse); Ernst in Cabaret (Citadel Theatre); Charles in Blithe Spirit (Showboat Festival); and George in Tent Meeting (Persephone Theatre).  For this wonderful show about birth and regeneration of spirit, Scott would like to dedicate his performance to his new niece, Julia.

 

TATIANA MASLANY  (Mary Lennox) is very excited to be making her Globe debut in this, her first professional production.  Previous musical theatre experience includes:  Little Red Ridinghood in Into The Woods, Alice in Alice in Wonderland (Do It With Class Young People's Theatre); and Amaryllis in The Music Man (Regina Summer Stage).  Theatre experience includes the Regina Little Theatre production of Miracle on 34th Street in which she played the role of Susan.  Film and TV credits include a lead role (Rome) in the series 2030CE (2002 Blizzard Award "Best Actress"), a lead (Ghost) in the movie Ginger Snaps The Sequel, and various roles in Incredible Story Studio (2002 Showcase Award). 

 

ANNE MCGRATH  (Mrs. Medlock) is delighted to return to the Globe and to be so warmly welcomed by Ruth and her amazing staff.  Anne performed here in the 80's in Blithe Spirit. Earlier this year, she was in Prince George performing Over the River and Into the Woods at Theatre NorthWest.  Based in Edmonton, recent highlights there include:  Into the Woods at the Citadel; Anne, Singin in the Rain, and Oklahoma at the Mayfield Inn.  A joyous and peaceful Christmas to all.

 

TRACY MICHAILIDIS (Martha/Claire/Mrs. Shelly) is proud to be making her Globe debut in The Secret Garden.  She spent the summer at the Atlantic Theatre Festival playing Cinderella in Into the Woods and Natasha in Three Sisters.  Favourite credits include: Fiddler on the Roof, The Fellini Radio Plays (Stratford Festival); The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Shaw Festival); Mary's Wedding (Magnus Theatre); Songs for a New World (Color and Light Productions); title roles in Anne of Green Gables, Emily (Charlottetown Festival) and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway and for the U.S. National Tour.  Thanks to Ruth and everyone at the Globe for providing such a wonderful place to play in.

 

ZACH PHAIR  (Colin, in alternating performances) The Secret Garden marks Zach's debut with Globe Theatre and with professional acting.  He has lived in Saskatoon, Hepburn and Carnduff, and is now very proud to call Regina home.  Zach is a member of Regina's award-winning Juventus Choir and has studied voice with Diana Woolrich for 2½ years.  He received the Primary Vocal Scholarship at the Regina Music Festival in 2003.  Zach also plays the piano and tenor saxophone.

 

STELLA SALIDO PORTER (Ayah/Alice/Mrs. Winthrop) is very excited to be part of the talented cast and crew of The Secret Garden.  She is very happy to return to Globe Theatre after her professional debut in last year's production of Honk!.  Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Stella has performed throughout the province.  She has a certificate in musical theatre from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, studied voice in Toronto, and completed a Bachelor of Music (Voice Performance) at the University of Regina.  Stella is currently a vocal instructor at Briercrest College in Caronport, SK.

 

BRUCE RADMACHER  (Cellist) is a member of the Regina Symphony Orchestra, and has just begun his fourth year with them.  Presently at the University of Regina, he is in his second year of Vocal Performance, studying with Lynn Channing.  This past summer, he performed the roles of Friedrich Bhaer and Mr. Dashwood at the Canadian premiere of Mark Adamo's Little Women at Opera Nuova in Edmonton.  Bruce is very excited to be working at Globe Theatre in this production of The Secret Garden.

 

DUNCAN STEWART  (Dickon/Lt. Wright) Since playing Ugly in last year's production of Honk!, Duncan's had a busy year performing across the country: Seymour in two productions of Little Shop of Horrors (Arts Club Theatre, Vancouver) (Grand Theatre, London); CJ Scruggs in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Neptune Theatre, Halifax);  and Frank Plunkett in Too Many Cooks (Lighthouse Theatre, Port Dover).  Other credits include: four seasons at the Shaw Festival (Peter Pan, Lord of the Flies, The Doctor's Dilemma, S. S. Tenacity); Grace (Globe Theatre); Pinnochio (Sudbury Theatre Centre); She Stoops to Conquer (Grand Theatre/Vancouver Playhouse); and Helen Herring Rides Again (Tarragon Reading Series).  Duncan gives thanks to his creative CHAMPIONS and MUSES including - RC, RS, CH, CB, DD, VS and PS.

 

GEOFFREY WHYNOT  (Archibald Craven) Delighted to be making his Saskatchewan and Globe debut, Geoff has done seasons at Charlottetown (Gilbert, Anne of Green Gables), Shaw, and Stratford (Marco, The Gondoliers); played Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors (Ontario Tour); Peter in Peter Pan (Rainbow Stage, Winnipeg); Jinx in Forever Plaid (Sudbury Theatre Centre), and Pinkus in Shaky Grounds (Toronto - Dora  nomination, Hamilton, Halifax, Poland and Ukraine).  Oh, and a bunch of TV.  Take a minute, talk to your family, and sign your donor cards.



THE COMPANY

PAMELA BETHEL (Assistant Stage Manager) Recent credits include:  La Bohème, Wozzeck, The Marriage of Figaro and Lucia di Lammermoor (Pacific Opera Victoria); Tough! (Leg Up Productions); Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest in repertory (Resurgence Theatre); The Drawer Boy (Sunshine Theatre); and two enjoyable seasons at the Stratford Festival of Canada. Thank you Kevin for your steadfast love and support.

KIMBERLY BUJACZEK  (Apprentice Stage Manager) is in her third apprenticeship at the Globe.  Previous credits include: Governor of the Dew and The Coronation Voyage.  In addition to these Stage Management adventures, she enjoyed a brief career as sound operation for A Guide to Mourning and Honk!.  Kim enjoys all aspects of the technical side of theatre and would like to thank the Globe for allowing her to gain some professional experience here in her hometown.


TRACY HOUSER  (Choreographer) is thrilled to be back in Regina at Globe Theatre!  She has choreographed the closing ceremonies for Dance and the Child International, created original works for ModProject at the University of Florida, and presented contemporary dance theatre productions nationally and internationally. Recent projects include: Last Call (Globe Theatre); Brigadoon (Regina Summer Stage); and Cabaret Intrigue (MacKenzie Art Gallery).  Tracy is currently a resident of Victoria, B.C.   When not dancing, she can be found in her garden or cruising on her motorcycle.

 

ALLISON HUI  (Musical Director)  wears many hats, appearing extensively as a soloist, ensemble player, accompanist, repetiture, director, clinician, singer and accordion player.  Credits include: Carnival of the Animals (Regina Symphony Orchestra); Cabaret Intrigue (MacKenzie Art Gallery); Cabaret (Regina Lyric Light Opera); Eos: The Dream of Nicholas Flood Davin (University of Regina); and the 2002 National Music Festival (as part of the Duke Trio).  Allison is privileged to be a part of her first Globe production.  To music (and theatre): for expressing that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent - Hugo.


WES D. PEARCE  (Set & Costume Designer) is excited to be returning to the Globe where audiences may be familiar with his costume designs from a number of productions including: The Coronation Voyage, Honk!, Elizabeth Rex, Amadeus and Two Weeks with the Queen. Wes teaches design at the University of Regina and recent set credits there have included Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Winter's Tale and Woyzeck.  His production design was recently featured in the opera Eos: The Dream of Nicholas Flood Davin presented by the U of R's Faculty of Fine Arts (which was also directed by Ruth Smillie).  Thanks to the Globe for this opportunity and to Brett for not forgetting who I am.


ALLAN RAE  (Musical Arranger) continues to compose music for film, chamber ensemble, orchestra and theatre.  If not composing, he can be found sailing on the west coast of Canada, USA or Mexico. Allan has been composer-in-residence at ATP for the past 15 years.  As well as Globe Theatre, his work has been featured at Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival, National Arts Centre, Theatre Passe Muraille, and the Vancouver Playhouse. Globe credits include:  A Perfect Ganesh, The Hobbit, Wit, Amadeus, The Importance of Being Earnest, Grace, Elizabeth Rex, Mary's Wedding and The Coronation Voyage, and Proof.

 

LISA RUSSELL  (Stage Manager) is pleased to be back again at Globe Theatre, her home away from home, where her previous credits include: Grace, Honk and A Guide to Mourning.  Originally from Calgary, she is grateful for anytime she gets to spend in the west.  Recent credits at the Stratford Festival include The Birds, Quiet in the Land, Romeo and Juliet, and The Sound of Music.

 

RUTH SMILLIE  (Director)  is in her sixth season as Artistic Director of Globe Theatre.  Prior to moving to Regina, Ruth was the Artistic Director of Catalyst Theatre in Edmonton for ten years. She was a Visiting Fellow at King Alfred's College in Winchester in 1994.  Directing credits at the Globe include Last Call, Honk!, Elizabeth Rex, Grace, The Wizard of Oz (with Michael Kennard), Amadeus, Old Wicked Songs, A Perfect Ganesh, Cruel Tears, and Cosi.  She was director and dramaturg for the Globe Theatre/National Arts Centre production of The Velvet Devil, and recently directed Eos: The Dream of Nicholas Flood Davin for the University of Regina.  Ruth is the recipient of a Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for her contributions to Saskatchewan culture.   She is also the mother of three excellent kids: Emmaline, Tom and Lucy.

MICHAEL WHITFIELD  (Lighting Designer) comes to Globe Theatre with an extensive background in lighting design for theatre, opera and ballet.  Recent credits include: Present Laughter and Pericles for the Stratford Festival (where he is resident lighting designer); Evita (Manitoba Theatre Centre/Theatre Calgary); Madama Butterfly (Canadian Opera Company); Simon Boccanegra (San Francisco Opera); and Sleeping Beauty (Royal Winnipeg Ballet).
