Jillian


Jillian Keiley (Director) - Jillian Keiley is the founding Artistic Director ofArtistic Fraud of Newfoundland, the winner of the Canada Council's 1997 John Hirsch Prize, the 1996 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council's Emerging Artist of the Year, and the 2004 Siminovitch Prize in Theatre. Favorite Artistic Fraud productions include In Your Dreams Freud, Under Wraps: A Spoke Opera, The Cheat , Burial Practices., Salvage, The Chekhov Variations, The Pope and Princess Di, and Belly Up. Jillian directed Jack Five Oh for Sheila's Brush, and Tempting Providence for Theatre Newfoundland Labrador, both of which have been playing in destinations around the world for the past three years. This year she was back with TNL once again to direct their production of Stars in the Sky Morning. Jillian also teaches at Memorial University and The National Theatre School of Canada.
Robert Robert Chafe (Playwright) - Robert Chafe is the Artistic Associate and playwright for Artistic Fraud Of Newfoundland, and is one of Atlantic Canada's most prolific and celebrated playwrights. His work has been seen across Canada, the UK, and Australia. He is the author of twelve stage scripts and co-author of another ten, including the highly successful Place of First Light , which played 650 feet underground in an abandoned iron ore mine. He has recently revived playwriting education in Newfoundland; through residencies with Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, Grenfell College (Memorial University), and a currently position at Memorial University, St. John's Campus. He frequently collaborates with director Jillian Keiley; Emptygirl, Tempting Providence(Theatre Newfoundland Labrador, 2002, 2003, and touring 2004, 2005, 2006), and the critically acclaimed Under Wraps: A Spoke Opera (Artistic Fraud, 1997 -2000). He has won numerous Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters awards, and in 1999 the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council named him Emerging Artist of the Year. Two of his plays (Tempting Providence and Butler's Marsh) were published last year by Playwrights Canada Press, and subsequently shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for Drama.

Melanie Melanie Caines (Woman) - Melanie is from Corner Brook, on the beautiful west coast of Newfoundland. She is a graduate of the B.F.A. Theatre program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College and has spent six summers with the Gros Morne Theatre Festival. Melanie has been with Tempting Providence since it's premiere in 2002, travelling with the play to Australia, Scotland (for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival), England, Ireland, and around Canada. She feels incredibly lucky to be able to tour the world with over 200 performances of this show!
Robert Wyatt Robert Wyatt Thorne (Man) - Robert Thorne is happy to be back on tour with Tempting Providence once more. After taking the show to such places as Edinburgh, Scotland for the fringe festival, Ireland and rural England. And then making the long journey over the Pacifc to Australia and Tazmania, it nice to get to see more of Canada that I haven't had the chance to see yet. Since The last tour Robert has spent his time with the Gros Morne Theatre Festival during the summer, and just recently finished two productions: Playing Mike in Joe Orton's Ruffian on the Stairs, and Man in Neil Labutes, AAutobahn. Robert has had a great time working on the show Tempting Providence and hope you enjoy yourself tonight. Theatre is a wonderful environment where people get to gather and use their imagination to create something beautiful. Cheers!

Darryl Darryl Avalon Hopkins (Angus Bennett) - Darryl Avalon Hopkins has been involved in the Newfoundland theatre scene since 1997. He has trained at both Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (M.U.N) and Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto. Owing a great deal of his success to his employers and co-workers he is very happy to be touring with the celebrated Tempting Providence, once again. Earlier work includes: Giovanni in John Ford's Tis Pity She's A Whore, Kilroy in Tennessee Williams' Camino Real, Proteus in Two Gentlemen of Verona;all for S.O.F.A. theatre. Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet, Duke Orsino in Twelfth Night, Lieutenant Alan Hayward in Kevin Major's No Man's Land; all for Rising Tide Theatre. Most recently, he has done voice work for Rattling Books and has made an appearance on the television series Legends and Lore of the North Atlantic. As well as being grateful for the opportunity to experience the many beautiful places this tour has brought him, Darryl is proud to share Myra Bennett's story with you. Enjoy!

Deidre Deidre Gillard-Rowlings (Myra Bennett) - Deidre Gillard-Rowlings graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1994. She holds a B.F.A. in Theatre and has worked on the east coast almost exclusively, until last year when she ventured west to perform Tempting Providence at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Deidre spends her summers at Theatre Newfoundland Labrador's(TNL) Gros Morne Theatre Festival in Cow Head, NL. It is a great privilege for her to work in the community of Cow Head and spend the beautiful summers on Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula only three hours from where she grew up. She winters in St. John's working with local theatre companies such as Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland where she recently performed in Michael Crummey's Hard light and Salvage. Deidre has just finished producing and performing in Rhonda Payne's Stars in the Sky Morning and Caryl Churchill's Top Girls both presented in St. John's. This past October, she was fortunate enough to land a role in the upcoming CBC Movie of the Week HEYDAY! written and directed by Fordon Pinsent. Keep an eye open for it on March 6, 2006. She is very proud and honoured to bring this story to you.

Karla


Karla Biggins (Stage Manager) - Karla was born and raised in Parson's Pond, Newfoundland, about 20km from Daniel's Harbour. Karla has been working on TNL productions for over five years. Since graduating from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College with a degree in Technical Theatre, she's been proudly touring all over the world with Tempting Providence, and working on other TNL productions at the Gros Morne Theatre Festival and the 2004 Youth Theatre Festival. Karla would like to thank her family and friends for all of their love and support
Denise

Denise Dolliver(Tour Manager) - Denise is thrilled to be part of the Tempting Providence tour. She has a long history with Theatre Newfoundland Labrador and its Gros Morne Theatre Festival, having worked with them as Production Manager, Stage Manager and Set Designer for five seasons. Denise also worked for several years in Memorial University of Newfoundland's theatre department as an instructor of stage management, drafting, and props. A native of Nova Scotia, she recently moved back there and spends her time between her hometown of Bridgewater and Halifax. She has just completed an eleven week tour of Nova Scotia with Neptune Theatre's Young Neptune Company.
